Introduction

The reactivated 27th Virginia, Company D is a member of the Stonewall Brigade and Jackson’s Division. We are a group of unique and dedicated re-enactors who try to historically portray a Confederate infantry unit during the American Civil War. All members, military and civilian, have a strong desire to preserve known facts and search endlessly for new information concerning all aspects of the war.

What makes us unique in the re-enacting community is our status as "Millets". Milletdom cannot be defined, it can only be experienced. Once a millet, always a millet. Many in the re-enacting business pride themselves on their abilities to portray the Civil War soldier in the areas of drill and precision battlefield movements. While these things are very important in the Stonewall Brigade and the 27th VA., they can sometimes become mundane and boring. We feel our ancestors would have tried to fill the non-combative times during the war with lighthearted, mischievous deeds and pranks. It is at this type of activity that the Millets have unofficially accepted as their life’s work. Commissioned officers fear us, other companies secretly admire us, and one never knows when the Millets will strike next.

Please don’t make the mistake of believing that Company D is simply a rabble of undisciplined rowdys. When the order to fall in is given, we will put up our drill knowledge and execution up against anyone. Our goal is to honor those who gave their lives for the "cause".

You may have heard of or read about "hardcore" and "button soaking" re-enactors for whom this HOBBY is a way of life. We in the 27th believe in portraying the Confederate soldier while maintaining contemporary sanitation and health levels. We all have family and workplace responsibilities that we assume on Mondays after the weekend events. If you are looking for one of these "hardcore" outfits, we will not be able to accommodate you. Please browse our site and see for yourself what we are about and why we do this fascinating hobby.
